DESCRIPTION:ESPR is now in Force – What’s ahead for companies placing products on the EU market? The new Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) (EU) 2024/1781 came into force on 18 July 2024 and it is set to reshape the European product landscape by boosting circularity\, energy performance and other aspects of environmental sustainability.\n\nBased on the European Green Deal\, the EU Circular Economy Action Plan as well as the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability\, this regulation will serve as the basis to introduce new ecodesign requirements aimed at making products more durable\, reliable\, reusable\, upgradable\, reparable\, and easier to maintain\, refurbish\, and recycle\, while also improving energy and resource efficiency. Therefore\, for EU product manufacturers and importers\, but also their non-EU counterparts\, understanding ESPR is crucial.\n\nAdditionally\, ESPR mandates the implementation of Digital Product Passports (DPP)\, which may transform the way products are tracked\, maintained\,and recycled\, and will enhance the transmission of information on “substances of concern” in products across the value chain(s).

DESCRIPTION:With the emergence of supply chain due diligence regulation in large consuming economies such as the E.U. and U.S.A\, importers are under increasing pressure to provide verifiable data about the sustainability of their entire supply chains\, not just the end products. There are many supply chain traceability & transparency solutions on the marketplace. Many expect all actors in a supply chain to subscribe to the same platform to collect the data for end-to-end traceability. However\, this model is not feasible or scalable.\nThis session will discuss the ongoing development of the UN Transparency Protocol\, which can be supported by existing business systems and extended to meet any industry requirement\, enabling broad adoption and scaling by any supply chain actor. Speakers will explore how extensions of the UNTP are being developed for Critical Raw Material\, Textile\, and Agriculture supply chains through an iterative process with Pilot implementers\, from all stages of the supply chain.

DESCRIPTION:Hydrogen electrolyzers contain many strategic and sometimes critical raw materials. With the market ramp-up of a green hydrogen economy\, a sustainable solution for managing the parts\, components\, and raw materials used in the sense of a circular economy needs to be developed simultaneously. Different prerequisites\, objectives\, and needs require a joint dialogue to implement circular strategies successfully. For example\, access to information from all value chain areas is necessary for reuse\, repair\, and recycling. Information management is crucial in digital transformation and can pave the way for the circular economy. Digital solutions for information management\, such as product passports\, life cycle files\, or Industry 4.0 approaches\, are being developed specifically for this purpose and will be introduced in the future. But what information or content is relevant for information management to implement circular strategies for hydrogen electrolyzers?

Pumps use 10% of the world’s electricity\, and Europump has been working on energy efficiency since the very early 2000s\, in collaboration with standardization and the European Commission\, leading to the first Ecodesign Regulation in 2009 and energy savings of tens of TWh/year in Europe. Today\, we wish to anticipate the coming revolution with the DPP\, whether motivated by future regulatory requirements or market demands. EUROPUMP would like to address this topic at its annual congress\, which brings together both experts working in the commissions and business leaders.

DESCRIPTION:Digital product passports are entering the textile industry at full speed. The EU sets the framework for what information must be digitally available throughout the product’s life cycle. To gain insight\, the EU is funding the Cirpass 2 project starting in May 24\, which is about exploring the function of services linked to the use phase\, such as resale\, repair and recycling. The Norwegian technology company Kezzler leads one of the work packages in the project. Here\, together with Holzweiler\, among others\, they will test how product data and traceability will work in practice in the circular circuit.
