CIRPASS-2 has marked a key introduction in Asia, with project partner Global Textile Scheme GmbH successfully presenting the EU-funded project in the TIFE 2024 International Textile Technology Forum & Research and Development Exhibition, organised by the Taiwan Textile Research Institute in Taipei, Taiwan, from 25 to 26 September 2024.
Focusing on three topics (“High-end Textiles,” “Digital Textiles, and ‘Green Textiles,’), this year’s event attracted over 150 registered participants and included keynote speeches, seminars and an exhibition, providing a platform for industry experts to share cutting-edge technological advancements and foster textile innovation.

Andreas Schneider, Chief Executive Officer from Global Textile Scheme GmbH participated in the event on its first day, as the opening keynote speaker in the session titled “European ESPR legislation and Digital Product Passport Insights on relevant activities, consequences, challenges & chances”.
The session, and the event, provided a valuable opportunity to introduce the Taiwanese textile community to CIRPASS-2 objectives and activities related to Digital Product Passports, while also highlighting the ongoing progress and achievements of DPP initiatives across Europe. Additionally, it was significant for CIRPASS-2 to connect with members of the Southeast Asian DPP community and their work in relation to piloting and validating standards-based, interoperable DPPs, such as the Industrial Technology Research Institute, which has been developing a DPP demo system and pilot projects (check here), a project funded by the Taiwan Ministry of Environment and involving Taiwanese companies in sectors like batteries, laptops, and soon, textiles.
Furthermore, the event attendance resulted in Global Textile Scheme GmbH (GTS) and Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI) signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations, to promote the sustainable development of the global textile industry. The agreement should assist TTRI in participating in the development of industry standards for the textile value chain with GTS, facilitate the exchange of information regarding textile technologies, standards, and innovation trends between both organisations, and collaboratively support Taiwan’s textile and apparel industry in understanding and implementing Digital Product Passport (DPP) processes and systems.
